Vatican Suppression of Philadelphia Carmel (Quo Vadis, Pope Francis? Part 218)

Another assault by Pope Francis on tradition. The Vatican forced out traditional nuns, deceived the remaining caretaker and took her away, so the monastery could be declared abandoned, and thus be suppressed and taken over by the Vatican.

Why would anybody do this? Well, the liberals and modernists in our Church are all out to destroy authentic Catholicism, so conservatives and Tradition are to be suppressed. Further, there are finances and assets to be looted.

‘Why would anybody do this?’: Former board member of Philadelphia Carmel protests Vatican suppression

Orders from both Rome and the Archdiocese of Philadelphia have forced the traditional Carmel in Philadelphia to dismantle.

Brody Hale, a lay Catholic who runs a foundation for the preservation of sacred places, has given LifeSite’s Jim Hale (no relation) an interview in which he shares his experience with the process of the dismantlement of the Philadelphia Carmel. Formerly a board member of the Carmel, Brody Hale believes the monastery stood on financially sound ground and could have at least be preserved as a “Catholic sacred space.” But the Rome-aligned St. Joseph Association, as well as Rome itself, played an active role in dismantling this 120-year-old monastery, the first cradle of devotion to St. Therese of Lisieux in the U.S. They were acting in a way “that disturbed me,” Hale told LifeSite, adding that he left the board because he did not want to be part of the “sacking of the monastery.”

LifeSite has covered the tragedy of the dismantling of the Carmel in Philadelphia since April 2021 when nine traditional Carmelite nuns who had come to help revive the foundation were forced to leave because the archdiocese and Rome did not allow them to live out their traditional charism. Afterwards, the remaining nun, Mother Pia of Jesus Crucified, had tried to preserve the monastery, while at the same time being discouraged from Rome, the Philadelphia archdiocese, as well as the Rome-aligned St. Joseph Association of Discalced Carmelite Monasteries in the U.S. from doing so.
