Pope Francis continues with his Protestantizing the Catholic Church. Now it is about the female diaconate, which he favors. Deacons are part of Holy Orders, just a step away from the priesthood.
With Fiducia Supplicans, the blessing of same-sex couples, which means blessing of same-sex unions, is a step toward same-sex marriage. Now it is female deacons, a step toward women priests.
Pope Francis had Anglican female bishop Jo Bailey Wells give testimony to the C9 meeting of his closest Cardinal advisors as they looked at the role of women in the Church. The Anglican Church had accepted women deacons, which led to women priests, and then even women bishops.
In 1994 Pope John Paul II had taught that the Church has no authority to confer priestly ordination on women. This was affirmed in 2018 by the Congregation of the Doctrine of the Faith as bearing the mark of infallibility.
Pope Francis himself had stated before that holy orders are reserved for men. Has he now changed his mind? Is the Synod on Synodality his way for making the change? Are we to follow in the folly of the Anglican Church, which is now in serious decline?
