Today’s readings:
Hebrews 4:12-16
Psalm 19:8-15
Holy warriors are equipped with the armor of God. Part of this is the sword of the Spirit. This sword is the word of God. It is the Bible. It is indispensable in the spiritual war that holy warriors are engaged in. “Indeed, the word of God is living and effective, sharper than any two-edged sword, penetrating even between soul and spirit, joints and marrow, and able to discern reflections and thoughts of the heart.” (Heb 4:12). This sharp sword of the Spirit really cuts into the very core of man.
Holy warriors must read the Bible every day. But not just read it. They must meditate on what is read, and live out what such meditation brings forth. They must study the Bible and immerse in the words of the Savior and of the writers inspired by God Himself.
What is contained in the Bible, including God’s law and His way of life, is perfect, trustworthy, right, clear, pure, true (Ps 19:8-10). It refreshes the soul, gives wisdom to the simple, rejoices the heart, enlightens the eye (Ps 19:8-9). To holy warriors, it must be “more desirable than gold” (Ps 19:11a). It provides needed guidance and direction. “By them your servant is warned; obeying them brings much reward.” (Ps 19:12).
Only then can warriors speak and think rightly before God. “Let the words of my mouth be acceptable, the thoughts of my heart before you, Lord, my rock and my redeemer.” (Ps 19:15). Only then can such warriors truly be holy.
