Today’s psalm: Psalm 149:1-9
In the call to evangelize, we enter deep into spiritual warfare. In doing so, since we are God’s instruments, and since we assault the evil one, we need to be holy warriors. Holy warriors advance against the enemy “with the praise of God in their mouths, and a two-edged sword in their hands” (v.6).
To have the praise of God in our mouths means to know whom it is we are serving, to have a deep intimate relationship with God, to be praying without ceasing, to trust in the victory already won by Jesus, to look to protection and empowerment by the Holy Spirit, to rejoice even in adversity.
To have a two-edged sword in our hands is to be steeped in the Bible, the word of God, to wield weapons of righteousness, to be equipped with the armor of God, to have a thirst for souls, to advance relentlessly against the enemy.
Only holy warriors can effectively assault the gates of hell. Onward holy warriors!
