Purity of life is about being pure in word, thought and deed. Purity in word is to speak the truth. “On their lips no deceit has been found; they are unblemished.” (Rev 14:5). Purity in thought is to be “pure of heart” (Ps 24:4b). Purity in deed is to be “clean of hand” (Ps 24:4a).
What are some elements of purity in word?
* We tell no lies or half-truths intended to deceive others in order to advance our personal agenda. We are children of God and not children of the devil, who is the father of lies.
* We no not malign or slander others.
* We speak only what edifies.
* We do not deny Christ when it is convenient or safe.
What are some elements of purity in thought?
* We keep our minds free of impure thoughts.
* We think only of what is good and noble.
* We occupy our mind and heart with the things of God, praying without ceasing and immersing in his word in the Bible.
What are some elements of purity in deed?
* We do not engage in any wrongdoing.
* We do what is right and just and true.
* We give our all for the cause of Christ. The poor widow “gave from her poverty (and) offered her whole livelihood.” (Lk 21:4).
* We strive to be authentic disciples and holy warriors, as we “follow the Lamb wherever he goes” (Rev 14:4c).
It is very challenging to live pure. But that is the only way. It is the way to “go up the mountain of the Lord (and) stand in his holy place” (Ps 24:3).
