Papal Apologist Defends Pro-Abort Atheist (Quo Vadis, Pope Francis? Part 210)

Pope Francis appointed a pro-abort atheist as member of the Pontifical Academy for Life. This is totally wrong.

If the intent is to look at different points of view, there is no need to appoint her as a member. She can just be invited to participate in discussions on a case-to-case basis.

The Catholic apologist’s defense of the Pope borders on the ridiculous, as he used faulty analogies.

* It is unlike the participation of non-Catholic physicians in the Lourdes Medical Bureau (to look to the veracity of miraculous healings). Physicians are physicians, whether Catholic or non-Catholic. Thus non-Catholic physicians can be looked upon to give valued inputs on medical matters. It is unlike an atheist giving an input on a matter of faith.

* It is unlike inviting atheists to speak at a symposium on atheism. Atheists certainly can speak about atheism, and it would be useful for us to see their point of view, if we wanted that. But we don’t need to hear atheists speak about matters of Catholic faith.

* It is unlike inviting Protestants and schismatics to the Councils of Trent and Florence. This invitation was not for an open dialogue, but for them to hear about the one true faith and thus be converted.

The apologist says the Pope likes to get inputs from others. Inputs from dissenting opiners could be useful. But if we look to mutual learning from atheists, we might as well invite Satan himself to a roundtable.

The apologist says that this could be an occasion of evangelization and conversion of non-Catholics. Well, if you bring them into the sheepfold, it could be the other way around. In fact, with the way Church liberals have been destroying age-old Catholic beliefs and teachings, that result might not be farfetched.

VATICAN CITY (ChurchMilitant.com) - A Catholic apologist is using faulty analogies to justify Pope Francis' recent appointment of an influential pro-abortion atheist to the Pontifical Academy for Life.

Council of Trent in 1545, depicted by Nicolò DorigatiTim Staples, a senior apologist at Catholic Answers, compared Francis' nomination of atheist pro-abort professor Mariana Mazzucato to the prestigious pro-life body with Pope Benedict XVI's creation of the "Courtyard of the Gentiles" as a forum for dialogue with atheists.

The popular apologist went on to use two more faulty analogies, comparing Mazzucato's appointment to non-Catholic physicians serving on the Lourdes Medical Bureau, and the councils of Trent and Florence inviting Protestants and schismatics to resolve differences.
