Pope Francis will consecrate Ukraine and Russia to the Immaculate Heart of Mary on March 25, 2022. Well and good. Any consecration to Mary is always good. But will it fulfill Mary’s direction given to Lucia at Fatima for the consecration of Russia? There are some loose ends.
First, was not Russia already consecrated to the Immaculate Heart of Mary by Pope John Paul II in 1984? Some say yes, some say no.
Second, is Russia not yet converted? It is certainly no longer the godless Communist Soviet Union, which did spread its errors throughout the world. Russia today under Putin professes to be pro-God, pro-Church, pro-family, pro-life, anti-abortion, and anti-LGBT. Russia today, at least in its profession, is totally opposite the godless West.
Third, by consecrating both Ukraine and Russia, the Pope seemingly is addressing the current conflict, to try to help resolve it and bring peace. Good. But then is that focused enough on Russia as Our Lady intends? Is the focus on the current war too narrow, rather than the larger focus of a converted Russia being a blessing to the world?
Fourth, Our Lady told Lucia that the Pope should make or order ALL the bishops of the world to make the consecration in union with him and at the same time (5pm in Rome). Has he done that, or just invited some to do so, at their own initiative? As an aside, the Philippine bishops decided to join the consecration, citing fear of a world war, with no reference to a papal directive.
Fifth, Our Lady said it is to be a day of prayer and worldwide reparation. Will the consecration include a confession of sin and a profession to turn back to God, beginning with those (the Pope and the bishops) who make the consecration? We await the text of the actual prayer of consecration.
Our Lady said that Our Lord had a special plan for Russia, that it would be used both for the chastisement of the world and then to bring the world back to Christ. Is this what is now unfolding?
