Today’s readings:
Revelation 14:1-5
Psalm 24:1-6
The book of Revelation gives us a glimpse of heaven, and attunes our minds to the end of time. Then, we will come face to face with our Lord. “Then I looked and there was the Lamb standing on Mount Zion” (Rv 14:1a). The elect “were singing a new hymn before the throne” (Rv 14:3a). Now here is the important truth: “No one could learn this hymn except the hundred and forty-four thousand who had been ransomed from the earth.” (Rv 14:3c).
Who are those? “These are they who were not defiled with women; they are virgins and these are the ones who follow the Lamb wherever he goes.” (Rv 14:4a). Who are those? They are those who live pure, and who have given their lives to Jesus and follow him wholeheartedly.
We all want to make it to heaven. Here is the question: “Who may go up the mountain of the Lord? Who can stand in his holy place?” (Ps 24:3). Here is the answer: “The clean of hand and pure of heart” (Ps 24:4a). So what should we do? We should live pure. “On their lips no deceit has been found; they are unblemished.” (Rv 14:5).
Then, after a fruitful life on earth, we will have our eternal reward. “He will receive blessings from the Lord, and justice from his saving God.” (Ps 24:5). Jesus won for us our salvation. This is what we deserve as children of God. Let us indeed make sure that we are deserving.
