Always Versus Never (Our Theme for 2022 Part 14)

Today’s psalm: Psalm 95:1-2,6-9

Today’s psalm is a call to praise and obedience. And the verse readings remind us of our

theme verses for this year. These are three most important spiritual activities we should do

each and every day. That means always.

Rejoice always. “Come, let us sing joyfully to the Lord” (v.1a). We should always and forever

be joyful as we “cry out to the rock of our salvation” (v.1b). Jesus saved us by his blood shed on the cross; he is the rock on which we build our house; he will bring us to everlasting life in

heaven. All are cause for great joy.

Pray without ceasing. “Enter, let us bow down in worship; let us kneel before the Lord who

made us.” (v.6). God created us and holds our lives in the palm of His hands. The creature acts justly as he worships his Maker. We must always remain in God’s presence, and prayer is our primary act in our relationship with Him. This is the way by which “today you would hear his voice.” (v.7b).

In all circumstances give thanks. “For he is our God, we are the people he shepherds, the

sheep in his hands.” (v.7a). If we are the sheep in Jesus’ hands, then whatever happens in our

life is cause for gratitude. Jesus loves and cares for us! We need never be afraid. We can

embrace our crosses in life, and look to the good these will bring.

As we rejoice always, pray without ceasing, and give thanks in all circumstances, then our

hearts will never be hardened (v.8), and we will never have cause to put our God to the test

(v.9). Never. So “let us come before him with a song of praise, joyfully sing out our psalms.”

(v.2).
